Scream 2022 Trailer || The Tea
I love Spooky Season, and with Spooky Season comes horror movies. My go-to all-time favorite horror movie is Scream. And we can’t talk about the new trailer until we talk a moment about the franchise it is a part of.
Scream has quite the iconic opening scene, setting the dynamic for killer for the rest of the franchise. Misdirection is abundant and the ending has a surprising twist with the two killers and I LOVED the acting from them as well. I really enjoyed everyone in the cast. And like a lot of older horror it can be a little cheesy but I think it works better in this film than in others.
I wasn't as big of a fan of the sequels that followed, or rather they did not live up to the beauty that was the original Scream. So, you can imagine my concern when I heard they were making another Scream movie. MORE sequels, remakes, reboots, it’s all basically a crapshoot with any series or franchise. If you get the right people who care about what they are making and not just trying to make money on a name then you have the chance for something good. And that is what I'm hoping for out of this upcoming Scream.
Scream 2022
This first trailer, it actually wowed me. I was surprised. The opening sequence felt much like our classic but with a modern twist. I thought it was a great choice to use a phone to lock/unlock the house and that mirrored what Drew Barrymore’s character did by hand in the first film. Not to mention the cinematography in the opening scene looks amazing. All of the trailer’s cinematography was beautifully done but that opening scene was by far my favorite.
The connection to the killing kids related to the original killers is interesting. I wonder if they mean just Billy and Stew from the first film or all the killers over the course of the four previous films. Not only are they using connections to past killers but they are still bringing back our original survivors, Sydney, Gale, and Dewy. All amazing characters. This is also bringing it back to a group of teenagers much like the first one did. The sequels that followed still heavily focused on Sydney and while she does sound like she will play an important role in this film, the targets are these killer’s descendants, as far as we know.
The one thing that did make me a bit sad was knowing Wes Craven could not be behind this film or a part of this film as he passed away in 2015. But the two directors that the new Scream has, so far, seem like they know and care about what they are doing.
My hopes and expectations for this film?
I want it to be good, obviously. I don't want it to be performative. Many new films and TV pander with popular hot button topics just thrown into them with no organic buildup. It does nothing but ruin your work for five minutes of internet pats on the back.
Two killers. I absolutely want this Scream to keep the tradition of two killers.
I hate to say this but I am going to say it, I think it would be a great way to introduce this new generation of Scream or end the era all together if one of the main three survivors, Sydney, Gale or Dewy, is killed. If this is the last of this era of Scream maybe Sydney. It would be unexpected, shocking, and emotional. Maybe this is also why it’s titled Scream and not Scream 5. The end of an era or start of a new era.
Overall, I'm hoping to enjoy this movie. I really want it to be as good as it seems from trailer. I've been wary with TV and film these days but I will maintain my hope that this will turn out to be a gem.
