Only Murders In The Building - Bunny’s Murderer

Only Murders In The Building || Theory

The Tea: Who’s Bunny’s Killer?

Spoilers for season two.

What we do we have? We have Bunny murdered, and our golden trio framed. Who’s the murderer? This one is tough, after last season I’m sure we’ve met the killer by episode six. But there’s a lot of suspicion to be thrown around.

Leading my suspect list is Alice. She did show up at a rather auspicious time. I can’t shake the feeling she’s involved if not the mastermind. I’m not convinced there isn’t two culprits.

So. Alice. We know she lied about her past to Mabel and there was some swapping of the Son of Sam card. How do we know she’s not still lying? Taking a sympathetic backstory to earn favor with Mabel? She had to tell her something after Oliver caught her in a lie, so she made up something that sounded good. Lucy showed up and while I have suspicions with her I’m not sure I can place a motive for killing Bunny. It isn’t out of the question that Lucy is the accomplice, though one of the culprits I feel is more broad and masculine looking than either Lucy or Alice BUT it could be a disguise.

Lucy did mention she had a friend named Anya? Anaya? Spelling remains uncertain but what if that was Alice? She could have been older than Lucy by some years and still be a few years younger than Mabel. The big sister type to Lucy. She showed her the secret passages, if she had a connection she to Bunny or the artist of Bunny’s mother’s painting of Charles’s father, then she could have used the secret passages to eavesdrop on Bunny herself and everyone else in the Arconia.

Bear with me, this is where it gets complicated. The painting is key. I’m going to break this into two theories. One, if Bunny’s mother, Leonora, is the artist of the painting. And two, if Bunny’s mother isn’t the artist and Rose really did go missing.

Option One: Bunny’s mother was the original painter of Charles’s father. She could have had a secret life as Rose, and when Rose needed to disappear Leonora told the story of Rose coming to her. The painting she kept was the one of Charles’s father and he was the man she was trying to escape from. And Alice is a secret relative of Bunny. Though this one I’m not sure how she’s related or connected exactly. Perhaps Bunny had a child she had given up and they are Alice’s family? And the painting would be a way to solve her family’s money problems. If her family found out Leonora gave up her mother or grandmother Alice could easily have done research into the Arconia. Maybe Anya didn’t actually live in the Arconia but her family knew about all the secret passages from snooping and spying.

Option two: Leonora helped Rose disappear to get away from Charles’s father. He was arrested bloody, perhaps he got physical with Rose? And Leonora bought her painting and helped her disappear so people thought she died, maybe even set her up with a new identity. But after that didn’t have anything to do with Rose or lost track of her. Her family could easily have fallen on hard times and Alice would have heard about the family painting worth a hell of a lot. Leonora could have told Rose about the secret passages of the Arconia and passed it on down until it got to Alice. She easily could have snuck in through the various secret passages and befriended Lucy. Used her to pass as one of the Arconia children while taking her through the tunnels and eavesdropping.

Overlapping ideas for both theories:

Why frame the trio? Perhaps Alice actually became attached to Lucy and was hurt when Charles and her mom broke up and Lucy moved away. She could have blamed Charles. The Hardy Boys crew maybe rejected Alice and Mabel just doesn’t recognize her. Oliver is either not party to this and is just included because he befriended Mabel and Charles or perhaps he rejected Alice’s mom or someone in her family for an audition in one of his plays. Bunny would be clear motive, she has the painting of her grandma(?) Rose, and wouldn’t give it up. Alice being an artist is just something I can’t ignore. Rose was an artist whoever she is, the painting was a huge plot point. Art has been referenced by Jan as well. This murder is a work of art. I think all of those things are key.

Now if it is Alice, I think she has an accomplice. Who, I’m not sure. It could be Lucy but I’m not sold on her. However if they were close and now reconnected it’s possible. But I think one person, Alice likely, did the murder and the accomplice has been planting evidence. Why do I think Alice did the murder? Right now it’s her boots. In episode six she had boots that seemed awfully similar to the killers in one of the Bunny’s death flashbacks. As well as scaring Mabel on the train and causing whatever incident that was. Alice freaked Mabel out at the apartment so she couldn’t have been on the train with her. But her accomplice could. I think Alice is our killer and the evidence was being planted between her and the accomplice. I am struggling with who I think the accomplice would be, but two culprits is where I’m at. Think Scream, a brains and minion.

As far as other suspects, I found Bunny’s friend suspect because they didn’t try to red herring her. However she’s had hardly any screen time and I think the killer would be inserting themselves into the case. As Alice and Lucy have been doing. I’ve also considered a connection to Ivan outside just Bunny’s favorite waiter, she really went out of her way to be there when he was and give him a lot of money, but in what way he’s involved or connected I’m unsure. That could easily just be another red herring. This show loves them. Or, perhaps he’s the accomplice? He seemed so sweet and much like Bunny’s friend not really much of a obvious red herring. But he has had more screen time than Bunny’s friend. Perhaps Rose was connected to both Alice and Ivan?

Cinda and Poppy are two red flags but I’m not sure what motive they have outside just a big juicy story for the podcast.

There’s so many good theories! Guessing a who-dun-it it’s always a fun time! Can’t wait to see how right or wrong I’ll be!

And That’s The Tea
